I've always been fascinated by the power of the voice to move me. I didn't have a clue when I was singing along to Carole King and Joni Mitchell back in the day that my voice would become the vehicle for transformation that it has, but I certainly understood that my deepest emotions were evoked with its use. An early inkling came when I sang with a local gospel choir back in the mid 90's. The music regularly brought me to tears and I felt deeply the yearning and devotion in that form. I did not however ascribe to the belief system as was requested by that community and gradually fell away from the project. Since discovering toning about 6 years ago I've been on a quickly deepening path. In the same way that labyrinth walking opened up a level of meditation that I'd never been able to achieve with endless sitting, so did toning take me to still deeper places. It's so simple that people aren't often wowed by it at first glance. Now that I'm learning more about the science of what's happening when we tone it's unthinkable that I wouldn't persist in teaching this most precious gem of a practice. Can't wait for the toning class in tonight's SH session!
